T.G.I. Friday’s is a brand rich in history, heritage and innovation.

It all began with a fun-loving New Yorker named Alan Stillman. He use to sell perfume, then he purchased a bar on 1st Avenue and 63rd Street and named it T.G.I. Friday’s. That was over 45 years ago.

He didn’t know that he was creating what is now known as the “Casual Dining” segment in the restaurant industry, he just wanted to create the ultimate singles bar. T.G.I. Friday’s became an overnight sensation - a destination synonymous with FUN for singles, couples, co-workers and friends.

It became THE place to see and be seen. Stillman’s vision founded the legacy that exists in all of our restaurants to this day. Everything from the décor and music to the lights and team members continue to provide a lively, eclectic and engaging atmosphere, just like they did back then.

Friday’s has become the envy of bars across the planet by setting the bar for the casual bar scene. Our bar is an exciting place to hang out and our bartenders are our secret weapon. Fun, creative, and all about the guest experience, our bartenders are more than just entertaining. Just take a sip of the awesome drinks and you’ll see what we mean. But, it is their history-making bar flair that made Friday’s a legend. Since the mid-1970’s, we have been credited with modernizing and popularizing flair bartending in the United States. Bartenders flipping and tossing bottles is exciting enough, but throw in the great-tasting drinks they’re making and you’ve got the full Friday’s experience.

We also conceived the T.G.I. Friday’s Philosophies and Theories in the mid-1970’s. These simple analogies provide a straight-forward approach to teaching common-sense management and influencing smart business decisions. Our operations teams still use these tenants for solving existing problems. This common language helps all of us work together toward our common goals.
